About PSM Recordings

Wookie J. and the Stand Out Selector have been partners since long before PSM Records was even an idea in anyones mind. Their relationship started in 1991 at a little, tropical nightclub, Studio 505 in Maui, Hawaii, when Wookie came to a show and wanted to DJ on the sound. From that initial meeting, the two went on to produce a track called "The Issues" which received airplay on some of the islands' local radio stations. The two also performed together at shows on Maui, Kauai, and Oahu and eventually moved to San Francisco where the idea of a globally conscious soundsystem took off.

PSM was born when the crew started to perform locally and showcase at different events up and down the West Coast. They recorded a "Double Single" and released two 7"s entitled "Sex and Guns" & "Unity" in December 1993. The singles charted throughout the U.S. and Europe and PSM began performing at some of San Francisco's biggest reggae venues, opening up for artists such as: Barrington Levy, Nicodemus, Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus, U-Roy, Spearhead, the Heptones and a host of others.

As Wookie hailed from Florida and lived for 6 years in Hawaii, he did not enjoy the cold weather of San Francisco. In November of 1994, Wookie J. returned to Florida and began working on tracks for his debut album. Once he settled in back in Florida he began to play shows and hooked up with radio DJ and Producer Lance-O (the two have been friends for many years) and Kulcha Shok Muzik. At this time Wookie has half a dozen singles (or album tracks) with PSM as well as 6 or 8 with Kulcha Shok.

As well as his two tracks on "Time's Up" the first PSM compilation, Wookie J. is also featured on "Mi Selecta," with the conscious jam, "Big Up the Children," produced by Kulcha Shok Muzik, and has a full-length LP on the way. He also performs through-out Florida... So check for him!!!
